Profile of Smit International

In 1842 Smit International began towing sailing ships from the sea tot the harbour of Rotterdam. Since then Smit International has developed into a company that offers a wide range of unconventional maritime services.

These services are divided in three market groups:

* Port & Coastal; this group covers harbour towage services, onshore and offshore terminal marine assistance and maintenance, coastal and river (pusher) towage and inland marine services related to the core activities of the group such as heavy lift, salvage etc.
   
*: Contracting; this group covers maritime contracting activities for the offshore oil and gas industry and civil engineering customers. It is also engaged in construction and installation of outfalls and landfalls, horizontal directional drilling, heavy transport and -installation activities and the engineering required for these activities and marine management of offshore and civil engineering projects.
   
*: Salvage & Towage; this group includes salvage and wreck removal, emergency response, consultancy and the traditional ocean towage.

In order to satisfy customer demands in the best manner possible Smit International has divided the world into four commercially and operationally independent regions. These regions are:

* Region Europe (Europe and Mediterranean Africa as well as the Middle East);

*: Region America (North and South America as well as the Caribbean);
   
* Region Asia (Asia, Australia, Oceania and New Zealand).
