In
1842 Smit International began towing sailing ships from the sea
tot the harbour of Rotterdam. Since then Smit International has
developed into a company that offers a wide range of unconventional
maritime services.
These services are divided in three market
groups:

& Coastal; this group covers harbour towage services, onshore
and offshore terminal marine assistance and maintenance, coastal
and river (pusher) towage and inland marine services related
to the core activities of the group such as heavy lift, salvage
etc. |

Contracting;
this group covers maritime contracting activities for the offshore
oil and gas industry and civil engineering customers. It is
also engaged in construction and installation of outfalls and
landfalls, horizontal directional drilling, heavy transport
and -installation activities and the engineering required for
these activities and marine management of offshore and civil
engineering projects. |

emergency response, consultancy and the traditional ocean towage. |
