‘Ficus’ 27 February 2008 – 6 March 2008
Combined chemical and product tanker ‘Ficus’, laden with MoGas and JetOil, grounded off Nassau, Bahamas. SMIT Salvage team refloated the 45,000 DWT tanker. At the time of the incident, on February 26, this vessel was carrying a cargo of jet fuel and other white oils.
All effort was put in place to prepare the vessel for a combined lightening and refloating operation. Crucial in this operation was the assistance of 62 tonnes bp tug ‘Smit Oneida’ (former ‘Smit Mare’) and local tugs.
This project was carried out in close cooperation with SMIT Salvage, the local authorities, the owners and SMIT Terminals Bahamas. |
