SHE-Q initiatives
SMIT recognizes the need for proactive SHE-Q initiatives. We are taking significant steps in the right direction whilst working together to achieve targets relating to safety, health, environment and quality.
Some of our SHE-Q initiatives include:
Safety, Health
- Initiation of behavioral Safety Campaigns
- Voluntary ISM compliance for sheerleg operations.
- A new safety campaign entitled ‘Our Goal is Zero Accidents – Injuries’.
- Addressing intensifying security issues through:
• Engaging dedicated security service providers; • Establishing a Crisis Command Centre.
- Co-ordinated occupational/workplace health assessment.
Environment
- A greening SMIT communication campaign.
- Subsidizing of an E-Scooter program (i.e. electric scooters) and investment in a pool of hybrid cars.
- Commissioning of a Carbon Footprint Study.
- Exploring reduction of office and ‘yard’ energy consumption through technology that controls unnecessarily high voltage supply.
- In cooperation with partners, two separate initiatives aimed at the development of a ‘Green’ vessel:
• Efficient in Operation, Environmentally Friendly, Economically Viable Tug (E3); • Hybrid, Hydrogen, Harbour Tug (H3T).
- Various vessel modifications to improve emissions and fuel efficiency, e.g. fuel consumption indication.

Quality
- A number of operations are either in the process of attaining or have already attained accreditation to international standards (e.g. ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001, and/or ISO 1400).
- Execution of Corporate Vessel Surveys for approximately 25% of the total SMIT fleet on a yearly basis.
