On Friday 29 May, passenger/RoRo vessel ’Vincenzo Florio’ caught fire about 25 miles from the Sicilian port of Palermo, Italy. The vessel was travelling from Naples to Palermo when the blaze started.

Bulk carrier ‘Pine Trader’ was en route to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, with 220 tonnes of fuel onboard and carrying a cargo of 20500 tonnes of bagged rice when she suffered an engine failure off the coast of Cape Town.

On 7 September 2007 just after leaving the port of Mangalore, India the 16.100 mt fine iron ore onboard general cargo ’Chang Le Men’ (17,000 dwt, built 1982) suddenly starting shifting.

Al Khattab
Dredger ’Al Khattab’, owned by the Suez Canal Authority, capsized and sank early September 2006.
 
 
Peach Mountain
Fully laden bulker ‘Peach Mountain’ (40000 DWT, built 1996) collided with a container vessel off Tanjung Perak, Surabaya Indonesia on 2 October.
 
 
Kew Bridge
On 14 September 2006 LPG carrier ‘Kew Bridge’, loaded with 8000 tonnes of liquified butane, ran aground at Ratnagiri, India.
 
 
Gulsum Ana
This bulk carrier 33423 DWT loaded with cargo of coal was en route to the Suez Canal, when the cargo of coal spontaneously caught fire in the first two holds.
